The United Kingdom (UK) and the EU have agreed a postponement of Brexit until October 31, 2019 (or sooner if the withdrawal agreement will be ratified before that date). This averts the prospect of a no deal Brexit for the time being.

However, a no deal scenario is still possible if:

  • The UK doesn’t hold elections to the European Parliament on May 23, 2019 and a withdrawal agreement has not been ratified.
  • The withdrawal agreement has not been ratified before October 31, 2019.

When we end up in a no deal scenario, the UK becomes a third country. This means that there is no transitional arrangement, no free movement and you will have to deal with customs formalities and import duties.

As your transport partner, we would like to help you continue your trade with the UK in the event of a hard Brexit. Although all companies that trade with the UK will be affected by Brexit, its impact will not be the same for everyone. Therefore this document contains fact sheets with general customs formalities, but also sector-specific points of attention.
